Making online payment collection as simple as mobile money itself.
WalleoPay is a payment gateway built in Cameroon for Cameroonian merchants and developers. We take care of the technical side of mobile payment so that you can take care of selling.
The problem
The country pays by phone, not by card
In Cameroon, the bank card is still the exception. The mobile wallet, on the other hand, is everywhere: it pays for the bike ride, for the rent, for sending money to the village. A merchant who sells online and cannot take mobile money cuts themselves off from almost all of their customers.
Except that to take payment properly, you need an agreement with MTN, then another with Orange. Two contacts, two applications, two sets of technical documentation, two notification formats, two ways of reconciling amounts. For a small business, the cost of entry is out of all proportion with what it is after: receiving the money from its sales.
For want of anything better, many still display a number on their page, ask the customer to send the money and then a screenshot, and check it by hand. It works for a while, but it breaks down as soon as there are several orders a day — and it does not inspire confidence in the buyer.
Two integrations to build
MTN MoMo and Orange Money each have their own rules. We have absorbed them once and for all.
Manual reconciliation
Comparing an operator statement with your orders takes time. An automatic ledger does away with it.
A wait on the customer's side
A manual check delays delivery. An automatic confirmation triggers it straight away.
Unclear fees
A merchant should know what they will receive before taking payment, not after.
What we do
A single integration, three steps
WalleoPay sits between your shop and the operators. You talk to a single interface; we talk to MTN and to Orange.
You request a payment
From your website, your app or a simple link, you give the amount and your order reference.
The customer pays from their phone
They enter their number, we recognise their operator, and they approve with their mobile money PIN.
You receive the money and the information
Your server is notified within the second, the net amount joins your balance, and you pay it out to your number whenever you decide.
Our commitment
You should know what you will receive
A merchant selling at 10,000 FCFA should be able to say, before the sale, how much will be left. That is why our fee is a single percentage, publicly displayed, charged only on payments that go through.
No monthly subscription, no set-up charge, no billing line that turns up three months later. On every payment record you see the amount collected, the fee withheld and the net amount credited to your balance. Payout fees are shown before you confirm the transfer, not after.
If we ever have to change a price, it will be announced in advance and written here as elsewhere.
A worked example
A payment that fails costs nothing. Nor does a payment cancelled by the customer. The payout to your mobile money number is charged separately, at the rate shown on the pricing page.
Transparency
Where we stand today
WalleoPay is starting out. We will not pretend to have years of history or thousands of merchants: here is exactly where things stand, so that you can decide with full knowledge.
The platform is built and it works
The API, the payment page, signed webhooks, the dashboard, the ledger and payouts are built and usable. Test mode is complete: you can integrate today and check the behaviour for yourself.
The operator connections are in progress
Going live with payment collection depends on the agreements with MTN and Orange, and on the regulatory framework that applies to payment intermediation. Those steps are under way; we do not promise a date we do not control.
Our first merchants are arriving now
We are looking for merchants ready to integrate early, whose feedback will steer what we build next: e-commerce modules, accounting exports, reconciliation tools.
Until an account is approved, it works in test mode only. That is deliberate: it lets you build and test your integration without waiting, and it keeps us from letting real money move through an account whose holder we do not yet know.
Our principles
How we work
Built for here
Whole francs, nine-digit numbers, slow connections, entry-level phones. Local constraints are not edge cases.
Careful with money
Every movement goes through a ledger. A balance that moves must be explainable line by line.
Readable by a developer
An API with no surprises, explicit errors, and a test mode that genuinely reproduces production.
Reachable
Someone who knows the product answers technical questions as well as account questions.
Let's talk about your business
Tell us what you sell and how you take payment today. If WalleoPay is not the right answer for you, we will tell you so plainly.
